TRIBUTE TO GENERAL CHOI HONG HI,
TAE KWON DO
Reference to the 24 patterns or tuls that he created.
Embedded in his reason for the 24 patterns lies a moral philosophy - He asserts that the life of a human being, perhaps 100 years, in relation to eternity can be considered as only one day, that we are no more than simple travellers. If life is that short why do people enslave themselves in materialism as if they will live for thousands of years, whilst others leave behind a good spiritual legacy for generations in the hope of gaining immortality.
He stated "Here I leave Tae Kwon Do for mankind as a trace of a man of the late 20th century. The 24 patterns represent 24 hours, one day, or all my life".
Amidst a "global culture" approaching the Millennium, with all its socio-economic inequalities which are perpetuated by greed, selfishness and discrimination, what part can the martial artist play; how many martial artists have kept to their promise of trying to bequeath a good ëspiritualí legacy for future generations or have they just engulfed themselves in gross material gain?
